Whether you are a long time antique collector, or you are just starting out, you will want to find antiques at places that will not put a huge dent in your budget. There are several ways of doing this, if you are willing to do some legwork.
The best option is to start going to garage sales. Many times these sales are by families clearing out a loved one’s home after they pass away. Often they have no idea of the value and they seriously under-price the antique. Others just want everything gone, so they put low prices on the items just to get rid of them quickly.
Estate auctions are another source. A person dies, and the executor of the estate hires an auction company to come in and sell all of the deceased’s belongings. If you are lucky, you will be able to pick up a desired item for a very reasonable price, if no one else is interested in it.
There are also companies that have estate sales for someone who passes away. It is similar to a garage sale, but prices are likely to be higher, as they are more knowledgeable about antiques and their value.
